bon jour July 22 Day 10

Left Sorel at 7:45, beautiful morning. Headed out of the protected marina into the mighty St. Lawrence. We followed a freighter past the port of Sorel and soon learned he was making more headway than us. The ride, weather and scenery were gorgeous. The current on the river is strong and we were going up stream as the river flows from Lake Ontario east and we were headed west to ole Montreal and Port D'escale. Did not see much water traffic and only had one freighter heading east, they sure put out a nasty wake. When we got close to Montreal the current got stronger and we were turning 1500 rpm and only making a headway of 8.5 mph. usually at 1100 rpm's we make 10mph, there goes our fuel calculations, don't trust the gauges.
We saw the tower clock and Molson sign and knew from being here in 2001 we had arrived, the skyline gave it away too. We pulled in to Port D'escale at 1:30 traveling 47.5 miles today. The port is great and alive with activity. We got hooked up sat, relaxed and had a beverage while we made plans for the rest of the day. WE walked up into down which is up as Old Montreal is on a hill. They have a lot of street performers going up the center of the hill as it is a wide open area (no cars) of shops and restaurants. Did the usual tourist things and headed back for showers and the air conditioning really hot in town with no shade. Hung out and waited till the sun went down. Took another walk uptown looking for ice cream.
Another great day of our adventure, every day will be better than yesterday's storm till our next encounter with MOTHER NATURE.

au revoir

  1. Hi Grandma and Grandpa!! We love your blogs, we run to the map whenever you mention where exactly you and find it. So we always know where you are. Abby loves the fact that you are using some French as Fancy Nancy uses those same words... She got very excited when I read them! Be safe and take care! WE LOVE YOU!!!
