Oct 2nd & 3rd Days 33 & 34

Well our easy day was not as easy as we planned. Could have been the cocktails during planning or just being off the lake but our 20 mile day turned into 48.5 miles. We are in a town called Ottawa, not Canada, on a free city dock and decided to take Sunday off as a day of rest. Since leaving Chicago we have been lowered by 5 locks, gone under 62 fixed bridges, and had to have 8 bridges lifted for us. We are now on the Illinois River heading south to the Mississippi River which is 239.6 miles from where we are. We will travel 218 miles on the Mississippi to the Ohio River. The barge traffic near Chicago was something else with tugs pushing 4 barges. The locks are huge and you feel small in them. We went thru the Asian Carp fish barrier(electrified) no big deal, called the Coast Guard as instructed but got no response so on we went, hair stood up a bit but not a big deal. Today we will plan the next few days before cocktails, looking for anchorages and free docks. Pretty cold last night 38 degrees so south we head.

Till next time
